Writing a speech or a presentation, especially a motivational one, may be a hard task for many people. It does require, after all, extensive knowledge on the subject that will be discussed. It also calls for eloquence, something that many people find hard to put into words, much less say in front of a hundred-strong audience.
But being an event’s keynote speaker need not be an earth-shattering, horrifying experience. This handy list of guidelines on preparing a speech or presentation aims to aid the uninitiated in the art of perfecting this particular performance. Know – and engage – your audience. In order to write a meaningful and truly motivational speech, any effective speaker must be able to connect to the audience. These are the listeners – your listeners – and your presence on the stage is supposed to make them feel better about their future tasks. In order to get their attention, know what they are about. Are they fond of visuals? Include a slide presentation in your speech. Will they appreciate videos? Cut your speech at an opportune time to sneak in a short and relevant video. Keep your audience absorbed in your speech.
Make it tweet-able. Especially if you are asked to be the keynote speaker in your high school alma mater, this is an important consideration to make. With the proliferation of social networking websites, the emphasis on concise but meaningful quotes is more visible than before. Make the speech memorable by inserting witty one-liners or deep, philosophical anecdotes that carry the discussion’s theme. The audience may not be able to remember the whole speech, but at least they will have retained a few words, the important bite-sized pieces, that equal the weight of the overall discussion.
Keep it simple. Contrary to popular opinion, you do not need to use highfalutin words to enthrall an audience. It does not make you sound intelligent; it only makes you sound unintelligible. A good keynote speaker knows that a good speech is one that is written simply and understandably. There is no point in writing an excellent script when more than half of the audience cannot grasp the main idea. To ensure that your speech is easy to digest, read the sentences out loud. If they do not make sense to you, the best thing to do is to rewrite them.
Use examples. Cite the accomplishments and experiences of the people who inspired you. Success is not achieved by solo flight. Rather, it is a journey that involves a whole village. Share your aspirations and dreams to the audience, and who helped you achieve them. Discuss why they served as your role models. What traits attracted you to them? What were the positive things in their lives that inspired you? Sharing a piece of you – being vulnerable – in front of an auditorium filled with young minds can help build a deeper connection between the keynote speaker and the audience.
Sprinkle good-natured humor. Making other people laugh will help keep them at ease. It is best to engage your audience in this way because you will be building a friendship-like connection to them that makes them absorb and believe what you say. Humor breeds comfort, and cracking the right kind of jokes at an opportune time will break the ice.
Have someone else edit your speech. If you are unsure about the efficacy of your writing, get another person to read and comment on it. This brings a fresh perspective to your work. They will be able to see the errors that you may have missed in the course of your writing. You will also be able to know which areas you should improve on, which can help you craft your next keynote speech.

Fairness and justice is a serious workplace issue that must be addressed. Perceived injustices and unfairness in the company can quickly turn engaged and productive employees into actively disengaged ones who would surely cause dissent to the company ranks. Therefore upholding a sense of fairness and justice in the workplace should be of top priority in employee engagement practices. Here are three ways to promote an environment conducive for fair competition in the workplace:
Appoint leaders based on their competency.
Appointing smooth-talking team leaders or managers that can schmooze their way to the top sends a wrong message to the employees that talent and efforts are not important to the company management. This is a sure-fire way to discourage employee engagement. Commonly, leaders who like to sweet talk do so to make-up for the lack of skill and competency and as such, they will not be equipped with the needed expertise to actively facilitate employee engagement. Most likely, these leaders will tend to favor employees that are like them, discounting the hard work and excellence shown by other high performing employees. This will spell disillusionment among engaged high performers as they will feel cheated because their hard work, efforts and excellence are under appreciated.
In any social structure, it is a human tendency to form cliques and thus it is recognized that it is impossible to eliminate. However, the company management should not condone its presence in the workplace. It may be argued that cliques can facilitate healthy working environments among its members because employees will have a sense of identity and a means of relieving stress. But the bigger picture says otherwise. It was found that most high performers are not members of any cliques. In fact, if an employee is a member of a certain clique that does not have a particularly good professional reputation, it may bar promotions and therefore career growth! Now here lies the bigger problem. If the boss or any member of the company leadership is a part of a clique, and promotions are perceived as “faster” for employees that are part of the same clique as the boss, then this can lead other employees (especially the high performers) to think that politics and favoritism are more important deciding factors in promotions than excellent performance. New employees can also be intimidated by “elite” cliques preventing proper assimilation into the system thus, adversely affecting employee engagement.
What if clique culture is deeply ingrained in the office? It only means one thing – There is a weak leadership in the company! Cliques emerge to fill the voids left by an almost non-existent leadership. Unlike sheep, people tend to flock and fend for themselves if no shepherd is there to guide them. This predicament is best addressed by going back to number 1 – Appoint competent leaders!
Never hesitate to give positive feedback at once but never ignore lapses.
Employees are surprisingly observant of the amount of effort that their colleagues are putting to complete team requirements. This makes them vigilant for the actions that will be done by the management to reward excellence and reprimand inadequacies. Failure to uphold this justice will certainly drive away the best company employees and prevent employee engagement. A good practice is to not delay positive feedbacks no matter how small they are. This gives the employees a feeling that they are not just being watched; their minute developments are also being observed. This will give them a go signal to continue doing whatever it is that they are doing right. This also gives them a sense of immediacy in the recognition of their extra efforts. Reprimand must be done privately and with constructive criticisms and should be aimed at the over-all improvement of performance rather than scolding.

Our brain is the central nervous system of our body. It contains over a billion neurons that dictate our bodies how to move, where to go and what to say. We use our brain every day because without it, we wouldn’t be able to function.

This is often used as the main conductor of electricity inside desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones and tablets. These boards can go as complicated as they will depend on the gadget it will be used for. The more complicated, the more intricate these circuit boards are.

Without these boards, we will be unable to use our mobile phones, laptops and tablets and other electronic device, as they will cease to exist. Using our brain every day is what makes us human beings and the technology that we use every minute of everyday are able to function because of the extensive work electronic technicians put in creating these boards. Often times we neglect our devices and we take them for granted especially when one is capable of buying a lot of these gadgets. People often tend to forget that these devices; which are essential to our every day lives have been made by human beings with brains. The relationship of human and technology is seen as a symbiotic relationship; one cannot live with the other.
Knowing what our device is made of and how much intricacy is being put unto it is what one should remember the next time a person uses his or her gadgets. Let us all remember that they are just like humans, functioning, relaying messages, making humans lives easier and more convenient. Printed circuit boards are the main reason why these technologies exist. They differ in size, color and wiring but they all serve the same purpose and that is to function as the devices brain.
As humans we use our brain to learn, to act and to think critically and in this technological world, we also get to use our other brain, our other brain that can act for us and inform us.
